EPSRC Directly Funds Manchester RSEs

banner-904884In the last few years members of Research IT have been helping in the campaign for the Research Councils to directly recognise and fund career paths via fellowships within a Research Software Engineering (RSE) role.

Over 2016 there were two EPSRC calls – one for RSE Fellowships and the other for RSE Flagship grants; and Research IT were able to assist in different parts of the bid preparation process.

We are pleased to announce that, from this work, Prof Phil Withers in the School of Materials has been awarded a grant to create an advanced multichannel software toolkit for tomographic data which includes funding for two RSEs.  To find out more about the importance of RSEs in visualisation visit the Visualisation blog.

New EPSRC RSE programmes including calls for further Fellowships are being planned in their Roadmap and we expect announcements later this year.  If you are interested in applying for any of the calls then please let us know as we can provide support and assistance.
