This course on “Single Node Performance Optimisation” will cover the main features of modern HPC nodes, including multiple cores, vector floating point units, deep cache hierarchies, and NUMA memory systems.
Research IT staff will be out and about at the start of the new academic term presenting and exhibiting at Postgraduate research welcome events across campus. The aim of the presentations is to give new research students a very high level introduction to research IT and the services that we offer.
Microsoft Research is offering a free, hands-on, cloud computing training course in partnership with the University of Sheffield. The course will take place on Wednesday 21st September 2016.

What is the programme about?
The Fellowship Programme run by the Software Sustainability Institute funds researchers in exchange for their expertise and advice.
A number of training courses in research IT will take place in September to coincide with the start of term. The courses are open to all University of Manchester researchers (both staff and post grad).
There will be two introductory workshops for working with the maths software Maple and MapleSim (modeling and simulation tool). These workshops will introduce you to a number of teaching and research applications using Maplesoft tools.

The Manchester SIAM-IMA Student Chapter is proud to host the first Julia workshop in the UK, taking place on 19-20th September 2016 at the University of Manchester. This two-day workshop consists of six plenary talks and two practical sessions led by core Julia contributors. The workshop aims to explain what Julia is, how to use it and how it is used in areas such as optimisation, natural language processing, statistics, materials science and computational biology.
